Clothing

Egyptians wore very little in the way of clothing. Men wore kilt-like loincloths in the old middle and new kingdoms, varying only in length.

Women wore dresses with straps on the shoulders, or a rectangular piece of cloth which was folded, draped over the shoulders, and tied beneath the breasts.

The Egytian robe, called a kalasiris by Herodotus, was worn with straps and the top reached either to the neck or below the breast and reaching the ankle.

The short circle cape was quite popular in the middle kingdom.

Clothes were wrapped, pleated and held in place with sashes, very little sewing was done.

Headware

May be quite elaborate, plain, but pretty style, consisting of a crocheted cap with long fringe and beads, or bareheaded.

Footware

Egyptians went barefooted or wore very light sandals.
